My name is Heidi DeVries.
I am a multimedia producer and social media trainer for The Ledger in Central Florida.
I am a student at UCF.
I have a cat named Cringer.
I sometimes go days at a time writing only in limericks.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Bill is looking for an online date.
Click profile, compose message, then wait.
Some girls try to resist
but they won’t know what they’ve missed
By not taking a chance on fate.
My boyfriend doesn’t get limericks.
“Where’s the nuance, the problem, the fix?”
He wants better insight
in these words that I write.
Can poetry cause marital conflict?
My shirt’s wrinkled, my shoes: untied.
I rush as I throw more clothes aside.
But I’ll be late to work
as a hotel desk clerk
If it takes this much time to decide.
There’s no sound funnier than a sneeze
If you don’t laugh, you’re just hard to please.
But my cat doesn’t agree
He blames my potpourri
And destroyed it with high expertise.

I’m writing one limerick each day
Using this medium to convey
My professional works
Can still have some quirks
And journalism can involve word play.

I love that I can still do a Google search and find several references to this article (and headline) I wrote back in college. Front page of the Central Florida Future on Sept. 8, 2004.
